Business Card Character

Correy Taylor Business Card Character, 2021 Digital Piece 29.7cm x 24cm
I have digitally created my first idea for my business card illustration. I wanted to create a business card that not only contains my contact details and the information needed to promote my brand but, I want the illustration to also be representative of my practise and the style of my illustrative work. I really enjoy various subject ares of illustration and my work mainly focuses on women's issues within society and I wasn't sure how to best portray this to my audience. I decided to create a characterized version of myself, which I've never done before. I have created a character of myself in the style of British illustrator and writer, Nick Sharratt and as I am inspired by his simple character style. I decided that I wanted to portray what sort of artist I am and also what sort of mediums and materials that I use within my practise. I had the idea to incorporate small illustrations of the materials I use, in Adobe Photoshop. I decided to depict various small illustrations that surround the character including; easel, paint brushes, tubes of paint, scissors, Indian ink, oil pastels, sketchbook, paint palette, coloured pencils, embroidery skeins, cotton reels and my WACOM tablet. I chose to represent the materials that I enjoy using the most and what is predominately use in my illustrations. I really like how these small illustrations turned out as I think that it shows who I am as an artist and hopefully what I am capable of. I really love the final outcome of the character, I exaggerated some of my features such as the size and colour of my hair and eyes. I wanted to create an overall pastel affect to the character, using light shades for the clothing and hair which I think works really well with the pale lilac background colour. I intend on taking this design into Adobe Illustrator app to create the business card template, where I will add my digital piece and I want to experiment with the back of the business card and the type hierarchy of my contact details. I do intend to experiment with other ideas for the business card as though I love the outcome of this design, I'm not sure how it will be received by my peers and audience and I may create an even better design than this one. I want to improve this idea by editing the bottom of the character, I'm not sure whether she looks like she is floating? and whether I should add a line to the bottom of the character or placing her inside a circle might make the design look more aesthetically pleasing. |
