Business Card Character

Image
Business Card Character Correy Taylor Business Card Character, 2021 Digital Piece 29.7cm x 24cm I have digitally created my first idea for my business card illustration. I wanted to create a business card that not only contains my contact details and the information needed to promote my brand but, I want the illustration to also be representative of my practise and the style of my illustrative work. I really enjoy various subject ares of illustration and my work mainly focuses on women's issues within society and I wasn't sure how to best portray this to my audience. I decided to create a characterized version of myself, which I've never done before. I have created a character of myself in the style of British illustrator and writer, Nick Sharratt and as I am inspired by his simple character style. I decided that I wanted to portray what sort of artist I am and also what sort of mediums and materials that I use within my practise. I had the idea to incorporate small illus...

Cream, Caramel and Mocha

Image
3 Portraits Correy Taylor Cream, Caramel & Mocha, 2021 Digital piece 29.7cm x 21cm I have created an A4 digital piece using Adobe Photoshop. I wanted to improve upon my favourite sketches that I created for the 100 Portraits Challenge, as I wanted to experiment with creating portraiture using a digital medium. I have been trying to experiment with Photoshop as I think that it allows me to create work that is faster paced and creates a more finalized piece of work. I decided that I wanted to sort of collage the three portraits together in one piece of work. I wanted to create a piece of work that not only celebrates women of different race and ethnic backgrounds but to represent the sort of topics that I like to illustrate within my practise. As a woman myself, I feel passionate about discussing issues that aren't widely talked about such as; trauma experienced in childbirth, Female Genital Mutilation, Gender Inequality, Sexual Assault and Harassment in Hollywood and many othe...

WWF Competition Piece - Painted Dog

Image
WWF Competition Piece Correy Taylor Painted Dog, 2021 Digital piece 29.7cm x 21cm I have created a digital competition entry for the David Attenborough Film Competition. The brief for this competition entry was to not only watch David Attenborough's Netflix Documentary, 'A Life on Our Planet' and to re-imagine a future world with our knowledge of sustainability and over-consumption from the documentary. I found the documentary to be really interesting but also very upsetting to see the real damage that humans have caused on our planet and the negative environmental impacts that we have created due to one-use plastics and air and waste pollution that has a major effect on our natural environment and the animals that live there. I researched into WWF and the endangered species list of 2020, which shows the pages and pages of endangered animals with a measurement of their endangerment and a description of their natural habitat and why they're endangered. Amongst the list...

Doctor Characters

Image
Doctor Characters Correy Taylor Doctor Characters, 2021 Digital Piece 21cm x 29.7cm I have created an A4 digital piece of work using Adobe Photoshop. I really enjoyed creating the Nurse characters and decided to create a characters based on healthcare workers. I labeled the pieces 'Doctors' and 'Nurses' for now but I may change the name as I have created various healthcare characters and I believe that both genders can obtain these jobs however, I used 'Doctors' and Nurses' to summarize the general subject area in which I've illustrated. Once again, I created the characters traditionally using graphite pencils and then decided to use Adobe Photoshop to give the characters more of a finalized look to the piece of work. I have created five male healthcare workers including; Doctor, Nurse, Squint/trainee doctor and a surgeon. I really enjoyed using colour to give personalities to these characters such as the timid squint. I decided to give him a shirt and...

Nurse Characters

Image
Nurse Characters Correy Taylor Nurse Characters, 2021 Digital Piece 21cm x 29.7cm I have created an A4 digital piece of work using Adobe Photoshop. I wanted to improve upon the illustrations that I created of various female characters of nurses, paramedics, doctors and other healthcare workers. I used to consider myself to be a traditional illustrator, who created art using traditional mediums. However, I have recently been enjoying the more overall professional look that digital art gives and I have recently purchased a WACOM One tablet that allows me to create digital illustrations using the pen which feels more natural to me than using a mouse. I discovered that when I use the mouse to draw, I have a very shaky hand and my line work is wobbly. The WACOM pen is a lot easier to draw with and I found that the smoothing tool on Photoshop, really helps straighten my line-work. I originally created these characters using a graphite pencil, I prefer to sketch my ideas first and then ...

Image
Heart Disease Poster Correy Taylor Heart Disease Poster , 2020 Digital Piece 29.7cm x 21cm I have created an A4 digital poster, based on my research into Heart Disease. This piece is the first poster in a set of ten that I am going to be creating for my Graduate Portfolio module at university. The brief for this module is to create a many pieces or a set of work compiled as a digital portfolio. For this project, I decided to focus on the main diseases affecting women. This includes;  Coronary Heart disease, Lung cancer, Ovarian cancer, Breast cancer,  Polycystic Ovary syndrome, Retts syndrome, Turner syndrome, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Cardiovascular Disease, Endometriosis, Interstital Cystitus, Uterine Fibroids and Infertility. I have conducted various research on these diseases and illnesses to inform my practise and this has led to my idea to illustrate health posters that intrigues, informs and educates my audience. I want to create posters that are a r...

Task 2 - Women. Time. Health

Image
Task 2 - Women. Time. Health. Correy Taylor Women. Time. Health. 2020 Watercolours on paper 21cm x 29.8cm During one of my illustration classes, I was given the task to list three key words that best describe my interests and ideas for my Graduate Portfolio module. For my third year studying Illustration, I want to create work that illustrates more interesting concepts and drawing styles to improve upon my practise. For task 2, I decided that I wanted to explore women's health in a new and exciting way. I am really passionate about illustrating women's issues within my practise and I believe that as an illustrator it is my duty to give a voice to those who want to discuss controversial topics, that aren't widely talked about in the media, but feel embarrassed or it's not their place. I am often inspired by medical research into the different discomforts and ailments that women experience during their lifetime. My initial ideas for task 2, was to create a piece of work...

Task 1 - Benevolent Boy

Image
Task 1 - Benevolent Boy Correy Taylor  Benevolent Boy , 2020 Watercolours on paper 21cm x 29.7cm During one of my first Illustration lessons, I was given the task to illustrate the word 'Benevolent'. The definition of Benevolent is someone who is kind and warm-hearted. My initial idea was to create a portrait that showcases a benevolent person. I experimented with drawing portraits from life and from secondary resources including my attempt of the 100 Portraits challenge, that really improved my confidence in drawing portraits and the challenge allowed me to overcome my fear of portraiture. During my third year of university, I would like to experiment with different aspects of illustration, allowing me to overcome my personal boundaries and therefore inform my practise. This includes the use of various mediums, techniques and art styles. For Task 1, I decided to transform a sketch that I had created in the 100 Portraits Challenge. I really liked the original sketch that was...
